Road to Sochi: A Look Back On Athletes' Efforts To Make Team USA

New Castle native Alice McKennis worked this season to come back from an injury. After months of training, she pulled out of Olympic trials because she didn't feel ready.

This week marks the end of our Road to Sochi series. For 22 weeks, we’ve followed a dozen local athletes as they worked their way toward competing in the Winter Olympics. Most didn’t make it because of injuries and fierce competition. Still, four athletes are there, competing for Team USA. Today we take a look back at the twelve athletes and their quest for an Olympic chance.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We are very excited to share the travels of Simi Hamilton’s family to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing dispatches from Ruthie Brown and family as they give you a first-hand, “behind-the-scenes” look at the Olympics.

Sim had a day off so we wandered the streets of Rosa Khutor, Krasnaya Polyana and Esta Sudoku. In spite of the masses of people roaming the streets, which are closed off to all cars, the streets are immaculate with constant street cleaners who walk about with little brooms and dust pans.

Watch What You Post & Sharing "Kruzhba"

So for Boarder/Ski Cross, I am now in the bleachers, shooting friends and family and crowd. Everybody's changing up for variety¹s sake.  The super slo-mo I was doing was fun because it was such a challenge, but I think I’ll welcome the change ­ because there will be a lot less stress with this assignment. With the former, I frankly cringed each time the replays began rolling, as that’s when the focus failures were accentuated.  90% of the time, mine worked.
