Two people charged with murdering a longtime Aspen resident will continue to be held without bail. William and Nancy Styler are in custody at the Pitkin County Jail in Aspen, and are expected to be charged in the case of Nancy Pfister. She was found dead in her home in West Buttermilk last week.
The Stylers went before a judge Tuesday, March 4th. Judge Gail Nichols approved three mandatory protection orders… they prevent the couple from interacting with three members of Pfister’s immediate family. The next hearing is set for less than two weeks.
After yesterday‘s hearing, Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo said he has met the defendants, who are a married couple in their sixties. “I usually don’t introduce myself to prisoners, it’s the first time I’ve ever done it. I just wanted to tell them they’ll be treated with dignity and respect.” Sheriff DiSalvo says the Stylers are originally from Castle Rock, a town between Colorado Springs and Denver. DiSalvo says to his knowledge, the defendants do not have criminal records.
The news site Examiner.com and The Denver Post report the couple also used to lived in a suburb in south Denver; Nancy Styler is an expert on water lilies,having and worked with theDenver Botanic Gardens and international organizations.
